Con: iPhone

Looking more and more like the PS3 launch
Let's see... high price point: check, difficult to manufacture: check, OS issues weeks before launch: check, limited software: check. Yup, lookin' like a mirror of the PS3 launch to me.
Disclaimer: I know the iPhone will do better than the PS3 has thus far (comparatively). Apple actually makes money on each of their units, so if they only sell 100,000 units, it's still a win for them (they will definitely sell more than that). One million iPhone units would be a huge success, unlike the PS3, which needs to sell at least 10 million units to even be viable. Apple fanboys are way more dedicated than Sony fanboys.
Apple has a frighteningly similar strategy as Sony did before their PS3 launch:
- Two models at the same price point ($500 and $600 – too high for the mass market consumer).
- Banking on the popularity of their predecessors.
- OS issues that will need to be patched after launch.
- Difficult to manufacture.
- Over-hyped. Touch screen may not be all its cracked up to be.
I know Apple fanboys will buy iPhones without a second though and it should be successful, but I really think that Apple has its hopes raised too high for this product. Sony's corporate big-wigs thought they could do no wrong, let's hope Apple is smarter than that.
