I see your points but I would have to disagree with the quality and sound not being anything special. High Definition is the next thing for watching movies in theatre like quality and that quality of sound and picture can only be accomplished through Blue-ray or HD-DVD. Now it will take longer for everyone to cross over to one of these formats, its not going to be as easy as it was for DVD's but people will eventually see the difference and make the switch. HDTV's will ... [read more]

High definition formats will have slow uptake
Sorry, but no one is going to be able to replicate how well DVDs did, and have been doing since they arrived on the market. DVDs were far superior to VHS in many ways, many more ways than DVD versus HD DVD or Blu-ray. Also, going against the new formats is the advent of digital distribution, where physical media is no longer required.
Let's face it, VHS was a really bad technology. You had to rewind and fast forward tapes to ... [read more]

Walmart Picks HD DVD As The Winner
Walmart is working on getting HD DVD players in its stores this holiday for under $200. This is a huge blow to the Blu-ray camp. In retail, Walmart can make or break most mainstream products. Walmart sells the most DVDs compared to other retailers, so if they pick a format in the next-gen DVD race, it will probably win.
Walmart sells most of its DVDs at or below cost to get people into its stores. However, they see DVD sales ... [read more]

Sorry, Vista is not for gamers
I know Microsoft has been touting the benefits for gamers of their new operating system, but that fact is right now Vista is a horrible choice for gamers.
The main reason is that Vista breaks most of our current games. Many of the games you love to play will be glitchy or maybe won't even work at all. I understand this is a necessary evil when a new operating system comes out, but that is a huge negative to gamers when their ... [read more]

Looking more and more like the PS3 launch
Let's see... high price point: check, difficult to manufacture: check, OS issues weeks before launch: check, limited software: check. Yup, lookin' like a mirror of the PS3 launch to me.
Disclaimer: I know the iPhone will do better than the PS3 has thus far (comparatively). Apple actually makes money on each of their units, so if they only sell 100,000 units, it's still a win for them (they will definitely sell more ... [read more]

Demand for XP overshadows Vista's newness
With overwhelming consumer demand for Windows XP on its PCs, Dell had to change its stance on only offering Vista on their Home Computers. Not giving consumers the option in the first place was a major wrong move by Dell (and actually most other major PC companies). Now Dell is letting consumers decide what operating system they want on many of their PCs.
Vista has not proven itself yet, and some software still doesn't work ... [read more]
